Building stronger skills, greater speed, and a passion for racing!

Competitive 100 is designed for skaters who have developed a solid foundation in speed skating and are ready to take their training to the next level.

This program introduces more structured training and focuses on improving skating technique, speed, endurance, and racing skills. Skaters develop greater confidence on the ice while learning how to apply their skills in a competitive environment.

Training emphasizes the 100-metre short track, providing an important stepping stone in a skater’s competitive development.

What you will learn

Our coaches work with skaters to develop and refine essential competitive speed skating skills, including:

  • Improving skating technique and efficiency
  • Developing stronger strides and acceleration
  • Advanced cornering and crossovers
  • Race starts, passing, and positioning
  • Building speed, endurance, and agility
  • Understanding race strategies and competition rules
  • Developing good training habits and sportsmanship

Competitions

Skaters are encouraged to explore opportunities to participate in local, regional and national speed skating meets. Competitions provide valuable experience, help skaters measure their progress, and allow them to meet other young athletes from across the Maritimes.

Our coaches help families understand how competitions work and prepare skaters for their first racing experiences.

How Does My Child Progress?

Skaters develop at different rates, and our coaches monitor each athlete’s technical ability, confidence, and overall readiness. As their skills and experience increase, skaters may progress into our Competitive 111 program.

Equipment

Participants require properly fitted speed skates and appropriate short track protective equipment. Club skate rentals may be available.
